Camera Botanica is a small prototype cabin (3 x 3m) that is intended to withstand the highest level of Bushfire Attack in the Australian Standards – Flame Zone. The cabin is located on Content Too, the holiday retreat for Ian Weir and Kylie Feher. The project involved the relocation of a 60 year old hardwood "shearers quarters" from the agricultural landscape near Point Henry. Situated amongst the protected “kwongan” heath of this area – the cabin provides opportunities to rethink how bushfire can be integrated with biodiversity and daily life. This design research explores the temporal dimensions of a landscape is characterised by ever changing light, frequent bushfire, variable winds and dynamic geomorphology.
