This project provides for the relocation of a senior diplomatic post to a more central location within Berlin. The new Embassy Building aims to represent the Australian nature of ‘integration’ and reflect Australia as a nation that supports the synthesis of varied cultures, skills and values. The aim of this project is to create an embassy that can be as active and accessible on the outside, as it is enclosed and private on the inside. Rather than cluttering the connection from the site to the water with an isolated architectural object; the building is formed as a topographical architecture in order to intensify the relationship between the embassy and its surroundings. Layers of topography build up from the River Spree and parts of the building push through the surface, allowing the water to enter parts of the building to be part of the program.
